Whether it’s for work or play, or purely personal reasons, these days, most people want to look their absolute best. It’s not always easy, though, as the demands and hectic pace of life often mean there’s little time to get to the gym, eat right or do anything else that you should be but simply don’t have the time or energy for.
The good news is that you don’t need tons of time or an expensive gym membership to make changes to your lifestyle so that you look and feel great and have the body you always wanted. Simple tweaks in your daily routine can sometimes be all it takes to get you back on track and looking amazing. Here are three things you can do right now to make a positive change in your life:
1. Get Up and Get Moving
One of the most important ways you can make a dramatic impact on your life is to become way more active. Let’s face it: most people in most countries lead highly sedentary lives — sitting down whether driving or on public transport to work; sitting all day at work; back home in the evening with long stretches seated in front of the TV. It’s leading to huge increases in obesity, diabetes and heart disease and, in fact, is killing us. You don’t have to spend long and torturous hours on the treadmill trying to combat it, but consider:
- Walking to work, or at least getting off your bus or train a few stops beforehand; or parking your car a distance away;
- Getting up and walking around every 10 minutes or so, if you have a job where you’re seated for much of the day;
- Using the stairs instead of escalators and elevators;
- Doing a rigorous clean of the house, including a thorough vacuuming — a great full-body workout;
- Mowing the lawn and doing some gardening, or for an elderly neighbour, if you don’t have a garden;
- Going for a stroll after dinner, instead of sitting in front of the TV for hours on end.
2. Focus on Quality Food
These days, many marketing messages encourage us to do everything so very quickly — “grab” this coffee and sandwich, for example, because we’re all so very, incredibly busy that we don’t have the time to slow down and do anything properly. Often, the result of this tearing around, and unnecessarily working ourselves into a cheap frenzy, is that we get run down and become ill. The kind of food many of us rely on often is hardly even food at all and doesn’t really support optimum health. So if you want the best for yourself, including peak physical performance, fuel yourself with real food instead of junk and you’ll be amazed at how quickly your energy levels shoot back up. Cut out as much processed food as possible — look at the ingredients list, and if it’s as long as your arm, it’s probably not all that good for you — and focus on whole foods, of which the goodness has not been stripped away by machines, leaving you with little other than a bunch of unhealthy carbs, sugars and fats.
3. Get a Smile Makeover
If you want to look instantly better, cosmetic surgery is always an option — and especially non-invasive procedures like Botox and dermal fillers that you can have done in minutes. Many people are now also expressing a desire to have cosmetic dentistry to give them an amazing, dazzling smile, as it’s often the first thing you notice about someone. New dental technologies mean you can have a total smile makeover in as little as a day, whether you opt for crowns or veneers, radically transforming the way you look and giving you an incredible image boost. Some people are going for cosmetic dentistry so they look their best on important days of their lives, like their wedding or big birthdays, while others want to get a competitive edge at work or improve their personal lives.
Whatever you do to upgrade your health and appearance, you’re sure to get a great confidence boost in the process.
