Top Exercises Moms Can Do with Their Kids

As a mom, it almost seems impossible to have time alone especially when you have young children. The thought of hitting the gym doesn’t even come to mind.

But exercising is a necessary component of a healthy lifestyle. So how can balance looking after your well-being while looking after your children? Why not include them in your workout routine! If you’re interested in staying active with your children, here are a few fun and effective exercises you can both do.

Children are very flexible at a young age, so yoga is an exercise they’re more than capable of doing. From downward dog to warrior poses, you and your child can both get a great stretch and workout in. Yoga improves your balance, strength, and your heart health as well.

Turn on a kid-friendly yoga video or some relaxing music that your child enjoys. Allow your child to go at their speed during each yoga session – remember it’s supposed to be an activity you both enjoy!

Dance is a favourite among most moms and kids. Why? Because it’s fun and you get a great workout in when you’re dancing your heart away. When dancing with your child, following a dance tutorial with music they like will add structure to your workout session. There are also many different dance styles to choose from.

For example, beginner jazz dance incorporates all types of cool moves and jumping that will get your heart racing. As a precaution, you can purchase a pair of stylish anti-skid jazz shoes for your child. This prevents any slips and falls so they can solely focus on their moves!

Outdoor Activities

Nothing beats the fresh and cool air from the outdoors. A few activities you can do with your child outside are:

  • Jogging
  • Biking
  • Rollerblading

If you have a toddler, you can always purchase a jogging stroller or a bike with a child seat in the back as well. Bottom line, there’s plenty of options for you and your child to explore the great outdoors while getting some physical exercise.

Circuit Workout

If you’re into strength training exercises to build your quads and abs, including your child in circuit workouts is completely doable. Sit-ups, push-ups, squats – let your kid do these exercises at their own pace and fitness level so they don’t feel discouraged.

However, let’s say your child isn’t interested in doing a circuit workout with you. These exercises alone aren’t very engaging for kids anyways. There’s another fun way to include your child during a circuit workout.

Get them to hop on your back while you do a push-up, squat, plank – you name it. Their extra weight will make your workouts more challenging while entertaining them as well.

Your children are a priority in your life, but so are your health and overall well-being. You can kill two birds with one stone by exercising alongside your children. Doing physical activities together keeps them entertained while allowing you to enjoy your daily heart-pumping exercise.
