3 Ways To Stay Cool When Your Air Conditioner Is Broken

During the heat of summer, the last thing you want to have to deal with is the air conditioner in your home going out.

If you’re unlucky enough to have this happen to you, it’s good to know some ways that you can keep your cool without the luxury of having that cool air pumping through your home until you’re able to get your a/c replaced or repaired.

It is understandable, how unbearable this situation can be, especially if it happens during the peak heat days of summer. If your air conditioner is already out of service, there is no way out but to look for alternatives till it gets repaired. However, one tip would help you from falling into this same situation again. And that is – get your Ac maintained and tuned up timely or at least before the arrival of summer by an HVAC firm that provides AC repair in Port St. Lucie, FL, or the ones available in your area.

For the people from the former category, here are three ways to stay cool when your air conditioner is broken to help you know what you can do in this situation:

Use Your Fans

Even without your air conditioner creating cool air, having any type of air movement within your home is going to help cool things off.

Knowing this, Katie Bandurski and Jessica Bennett, contributors to Better Homes and Gardens, recommend that you turn on every fan in your home in an attempt to get the temperature to drop a degree or two. This includes things like your ceiling fans, and box fans or oscillating fans you may have, and even the exhaust fans in your bathroom or kitchen. And, for even more pronounced cooling, try sticking a bowl of ice cubes in front of these fans so that the fan will be pushing cooler air into the room rather than just recirculating the air that’s already there.

Get In The Water

Another thing that can help to keep you cool even when the temperature is hot is water.

If you happen to have a pool at your house, taking a swim or otherwise playing in water outside can be a great escape from sitting in the heat of your home while your air conditioner is broken. But if you’re not lucky enough to have a pool or somewhere you can do to be in the water outside, Jake Smith, a contributor to Prevention.com, shares that taking a cool shower or bath can accomplish the same thing. By exposing your body to water that’s cooler than the air around you, it will help to lower your internal temperature and keep your body cool.

Be Thoughtful In The Kitchen

The last thing you want to do when your house is heating up without having your air conditioner to cool it back down is to introduce even more heat in the equation. Because of this, you’ll want to be very careful about what cooking appliances, or other appliances, you use.

According to Kristen Rogers, a contributor to CNN.com, cooking outside or using a slow cooker are going to be the best ways to heat up your food without heating up your entire home in the process.

If you’re having to make it through a few hot days before your air conditioner will be repaired or replaced, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you keep your sweat to a minimum.
