6 Must-Haves to Pack for Your First Camping Trip

Whether it’s spring, summer, winter, or fall, lots of people love getting back to nature by camping in the great outdoors. Since there are many health benefits to camping, more and more people are venturing out on weekends or for weeks at a time during summer vacation.

However, if you’re a newbie to the whole camping scene, you need to be aware of everything from camping safety tips to the things you need to pack for your first camping experience. In this blog, you’ll find a few off the must-haves you should pack for your very first camping trip so you’re not left out in the cold without the supplies you need.

A First Aid Kit

Cuts, burns, scratches, and bumps are par for the course when you’re camping in the woods. The problem comes when you don’t have anything with you to treat those minor injuries. Make sure that a quality first aid kit is at the top of your list of must-pack items before you head out on any camping trip. You don’t want to just leave it at the campsite if you’re out on a hike, walk, or fishing trip. You never know what might happen, so keep it in your backpack wherever you go.

Comfortable Clothing

When it comes to camping, you want your clothes to be as comfy as they can be. From loungewear such as hoodies to sweats and shorts, there are plenty of options out there to keep you warm or cool according to the season you’re camping in. You want the clothing you choose to be durable, yet comfortable at the same time.

Grab and Go Foods

While you’re probably looking forward to cooking over an open fire during your trip, it’s important to have what is known as grab and go food options handy as well. You never know when it’s going to rain, the firewood will be too wet to burn, or you didn’t catch the big fish you were planning to have for dinner. Foods such as dried fruit, energy bars, and applesauce will tide you over until the rain stops and you can start a campfire to cook the way you want to.

Easy to Slip on Shoes

Always take along a pair of shower shoes, flip-flops or sandals for your camping trip. You still, of course, need your sturdy sneakers or hiking boots, but these types of shoes are easy to slip on for various reasons.

  • In the middle of the night when nature calls
  • Great for walking from your tent to the shower and you can keep them on during your shower to prevent the transfer of foot fungus
  • For walking to the lake, pool, or river, they are shoes you don’t care if they get wet

Plenty of Dryer Lint

Before you head out on your first camping trip, start saving up the lint from your dryer. Believe it or not, dryer lint is excellent as a firestarter. It’s better than twigs, wood chips, and shreds of paper. Save yours up in a Ziploc bag and carry it in your backpack. It’s easy to use and inexpensive as well.

Plenty of Insect Repellent

With any camping trip comes insects. Make sure that you carry plenty of insect repellent with you and take safety precautions to keep from getting stung or bitten. Insect repellent should be one of the first things you pack in your sack.

These are just a few of the must-have items you should pack for a camping trip as a beginner. Camping can be an amazing experience, but only if you’re prepared, if not, it can make for a long, miserable weekend.
