The best motorway services you can stop off around the UK

Up and down the UK there are many service stations; some are worth stopping for and paying a visit while others are best to be avoided completely. Long car journeys can often be quite boring and tiresome, so it’s recommended to take regular breaks when you are driving for long periods.

If you plan your journey well, you can experience some of the very best service stations the UK has to offer. But what makes a great service station? For some people it’s about the food variety, for others it could be cleanliness.

LeaseCar UK have created an infographic that looks at the top 5 service stations across the UK and what you can do there to pass some time. So if you’re heading off on a long car journey soon, it may be worth stopping off at some of the following motorway service stations.

Stafford Northbound

Located on the M6 between junction 14 and 15, Stafford Northbound is a popular and busy service station. Here you will find plenty of eating spots including West Cornwall Pasty Co, Greggs, Burger King and Chow. This is a great place to take a break, especially if you’re driving with children as there’s a play area for them to let off some steam.

Norton Canes

A great place to stop for a quick bite to eat and to stretch your legs is Norton Canes located on the M6 toll road between junction 6 and 7. This is considered to be a treat for drivers, with its fountains, picnic areas and an array of shops and restaurants to choose from. It’s also come top of satisfaction surveys in 2018 and 2019.

Gloucester Southbound

This service station is found on the M5 between junction J11a and 12. The great thing about Gloucester Southbound is that they work with a local charity, the Gloucestershire Gateway Trust which helps run the site and ensure it is environmentally friendly and supports the local area. There’s a children’s play area and dog walking area, as well as a butcher’s counter, cheese counter and farm shop.

South Mimms

South Mimms has options such as KFC, Pizza Express, Pret a Manger, Subway and Starbucks, which explains its popularity. It has an electric vehicle charging point, a games arcade and a UK TruckClean, making it quite the hit with both truckers and commuters. This service station can be found on the M25 at junction 23.

Heston Westbound

Located on the M4 between junction 2 and 3, Heston Westbound is popular amongst motorists heading to and from Heathrow airport.  It’s one of the oldest services in the country with plenty of places to grab a bite to eat, from Burger King, Costa, Greggs and WHSmith.
