3 Tips For Taking Your First Trip To Hawaii

If you’ve been dreaming of escaping to your own private island for awhile, Hawaii might be the closest thing you’ll get to this dream becoming a reality. With the palm trees and ocean breezes, there’s no better place to spend your travel time than relaxing on those world-famous beaches.

For those who’ve yet to travel to the Hawaiian islands, you might be a little unsure about how this trip should unfold for you. So to help you in making these all-important preparations, here are three tips for taking your first trip to Hawaii.

Research Activities

There are so many things to do in Hawaii that it can be hard to know where to start. With sun, sea and sand galore, there are obviously plenty of things to do outdoors. Kai Kanani, for example, offers boat tours around the islands so that you can experience as much as possible during your time there. You can also spend a day whale watching, snorkelling or sailing, amongst many other things that involve close contact with the local wildlife and landscape. However, if your idea of a good holiday is more geared towards relaxation, there are plenty of beaches to sunbathe on and pools to lounge next to.

Pick An Island Or Islands

Hawaii is made up of a chain of islands. The hardest part for you will be picking which island or islands that you want to visit.

According to GoHawaii.com, there are similar yet vastly different things to experiences on each island. While you can go to a luau on all islands, you will get a different feel for the culture and the environment based on which islands you visit. While Kauai has the Napali Coast, Oahu and Molokai are known to have amazing beaches.

If you’re wanting to experience volcanoes, the Big Island of Hawaii is likely the one you’ll want to visit. Luckily, it’s pretty easy to hop from one island to another once you’re out there, so don’t worry if you feel like you’re being pulled in two directions when it comes to making a choice.

Try To Visit During The Off-Season

As for what time of year you should plan your trip to Hawaii, Michele Bigley, a contributor to CNN Travel, suggests that you try to make it over there during their off-season. The off-season typically falls in April and May and September and October. So if you can line up your trip in these months, you should be able to experience fewer additional vacationers and even get cheaper prices for things like travel and accommodations.

Keep in mind, however, that because the weather in Hawaii is beautiful all year, there’s never truly a lull in travelers visiting the islands, so don’t expect to be the only ones there even when visiting in the off-season. You’ll still find people at the beaches, restaurants, and on the roads, creating traffic and hazards for car accidents.

Don’t Be Afraid To Venture Off The Beaten Path

Even though this is your first visit to Hawaii, you might find that you have the most fun when you venture off the beaten path a bit.

According to Kaeli Conforti, a contributor to Budget Travel, some of the best things to see aren’t the ones that most tourists are spending their time on. Especially if you’re willing to take a little drive or hike a short distance, you could find the real hidden gems on whatever island you’re visiting.

If you’re planning your first trip to Hawaii, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you plan the perfect getaway.
