The results of chronic back pain can be more than just discomfort.  It may inhibit sufferers from sleeping, working, and may even lead to developing further conditions.

Here are some tips for easing your chronic back pain and moving towards recovery.

Deep Breathing Exercises

Deep breathing exercises have been found to be incredibly helpful for people with back problems.  By practicing breathing deeply, you can reduce tightness and increase relaxation.

Try sitting in a quiet location and imagine that you are a balloon. Breathe into your abdomen, filling your stomach with each inhale, and deflating when you exhale.

Eliminate Stress

Stress isn’t conducive towards healing in any way shape or form.  Whether it be physical or emotional stress, it can intensify your pain and make your condition worse.

Try to avoid situations which could lead to anxiety or high stress.  If you have a high-intensity job which requires a lot of physical and mental energy, you may want to consider making a change.

If your pain is worsening over time, then its time to consider whether your job may be playing a role.

Practice Low-Intensity Exercise

Exercise can be healing if you choose the right forms.  Something low intensity such as yoga or swimming can reduce your pain and strengthen your body.

In addition to making you stronger, it can lead to weight loss.  In many cases, excess weight is a contributing factor to people’s back pain.  Therefore, starting a regular exercise program could be your one-stop solution.

Eliminate Alcohol

Alcohol isn’t just dangerous for potentially injuring yourself after one too many, but it can seriously affect your sleep.

Anyone who is currently suffering any sort of health issue should avoid alcohol altogether.  Even small amounts of alcohol can have serious effects on the body’s ability to heal.

Get Regular Massages

Never underestimate the power of a good massage.  A massage can help you feel immediate relief from your pain and tension.

Your massage therapist will get to know what your problem areas are and will try to work on them increasingly over time during your sessions.

Stretch

It’s beneficial to educate yourself on stretches which elongate your spine and relieve muscle tension.

Try to get into the habit of waking up every morning and doing the same stretches.  It may make a huge improvement on your day by incorporating a stretching routine.
